Well howdy everyone! I have to admit that I too, am a blog stalker and I do enjoy reading others' blogs. I haven't gotten permission yet to share this, so I will keep the person anonymous, but it is from a blog that I follow, and more importantly, it's from a Brazos Fellowship member AND a Brazos Fellowship volunteer. Yes, he/she is pouring their heart, but there is so much truth and wisdom to what is said in many parts of this blog; I wanted to share what it's like from a volunteer's perspective. (Please keep in mind this is only the opinion of 1 volunteer, not everyone). Please read this and pray about how you can volunteer and then go to the website: www.brazosfellowship.com, and sign up to volunteer!
"- Jesus should be the focus of everything
- watching people who are members and regular attenders treat Sunday as a social hour really bugs me
- get out of my way, I'm here to serve and make sure the lost are treated like royalty.
- why don't more people volunteer? you talk about how much you love your church. well I'm telling you right now, your church should not be going through a recession just because you are. Trust God if you really are a Jesus Freak.
- Just because you don't know how to do something, doesn't mean you shouldn't when asked.
- See that person standing against the wall? Believe it or not, he has never been to your church. Go up to them, say hi, introduce yourself, then walk off. That's all it takes.
- In case you forgot, Jesus should be the focus of everything.
- Stop feeling like you aren't appreciated for what you do. It's not about you.
- Oh yeah, the volunteer thing, see that person standing alone serving coffee or opening a door? They don't want to be standing there alone. But they are standing there because they know they are making a difference to probably that "one person"
- Do you really think the church staff enjoyed taking a pay-cut? Yet, they work harder and smile harder than anyone else. All you have to provide is an hour or two more out of your day.
- Notice I said an 'hour', that's sixty minutes. Not fifteen minutes. Church usually last for an hour, not fifteen.
Your probably thinking I'm talking about you. Yeah, I am, but if you know me, you already know how these things burn me up.
Oh, yes, I'm a church volunteer. Are you? No really, are you serving in your church?
In the end, its all about Jesus, if you do your part, then He can do His by placing souls in front of you who are about to go through a serious life change.
But if you don't do your part, how can we expect Him to do His?"
